He picks the bouquet, careful of the remaining blooms. A boyish grin spreads between his cheeks. He has never received flowers before. It’s hard to ever expect them, especially after Dalamud. There are a few hearty strands that can survive the snow, as well as what grows in Cloudtop or can be imported from Gridania. All fetch a pretty copper, making the sparse selection in his arms feel like he’s holding all the jewels within the Vault.

“He mentioned they all have meaning, too,” continues Lucia. “Doubtless you know better than I. The Nymeia Lilies are for safe travels. Furymint represents strength and faith. And I believe the last ones are—”

“Dandelions,” Aymeric says, beaming down at the sunny yellow flowers scattered through the bouquet. From his armchair, his sleeping cat’s ear flicks. Having finished her fish, she is staying on task with the first of her post-breakfast naps. One sleepy yellow eye peaks open at the sound of her namesake, but a quick sniff determines there are no more leftovers and she blinks right back into her slumber.

It's June, so dragonbride is back on the menu for #wipwednesday, boys!

“Fine,” the wyrm projects as an approving snort spills from his nostrils, warming Aymeric’s skin in a way that is not entirely uncomfortable. “But mayhaps a second set of eyes should appraise thee.”

A single wingbeat lifts the dragon from his perch. It stirs a gust of swirling snow that erupts into aether. Aymeric shuts his eyes as it pelts his skin, furious and hail-like. The assault continues until it ebbs into a sharp metal gauntlet grazing his cheek: the same one that touched him there while swearing to the seven heavens that he would return.

And Aymeric supposes he did.

When he opens his eyes, Estinien stands before him in a profane imitation of their final private moment together. The holy dragoon armor that he had worn as well as a second skin had been twisted to become just that. Somehow taller and broader, he is a marionette of metal, scale, and skin stitched together by strands of red, angry aether. Two lightless grey eyes stare unblinkingly at him from within the maw of his dragoon helm, while his mouth stretches into a vulgar recreation of one of his rare, cherished smiles.

“Would that he could see you trembling like a maiden on her bonding day.”
