1/2 I had a really great online Q&A session with St Cecilias. It was a really open and frank conversation with lots of laughs and a chance for anyone to ask questions and bring what they needed to the session.

1/4 Memory loss can be one of the most distressing parts of going through perimenopause and into menopause while working in a school.

Often it comes in the way of word loss.

1/2 For those of you new to my network, I'm Helen and I help school leaders support their colleagues through perimenopause and menopause so that they can all get on with the jobs they love.

1/3 I know how terrifying this is. Menstrual flooding is a real problem in perimenopause. You might get a second or two warning and then it's off.

Sometimes it overwhelms any protection you had in place.

1/4 Perimenopause and menopause affect pupil experience. That's always the question isn't it? What's the impact of any intervention on the pupils and their learning?

Children need teachers who are happy, confident and committed to their jobs.

1/4 In the polite culture of a school no-one tells someone struggling with perimenopause or menopause to shut up. They don't say 'I don't care', 'what's that got to do with me' 'give it a rest will you'.

We're nicer than that. We have polite ways of silencing people.

2/2 One way to be bad at New Year's resolutions is to make them a few days late. Perhaps you could leave it until the New Term starts for real on Monday? Or till February.

Friday thought: 5-minute reset

1️⃣ Deep breath in (4s), hold (4s), out (8s).
2️⃣ Name 3 things you can see.
3️⃣ Unsubscribe from one 'noise' email.
4️⃣ Schedule something fun this weekend.
5️⃣ Tell yourself I'm doing a great job.

Which one are you doing first? 👇

1/3 What's at the core of making sure a school handles menopause well and that colleagues in perimenopause and menopause are well supported?

It comes down to the a conversation between the person that's struggling and a member of school leadership.

1/4 Confession: I was in bed by 10 o'clock last night. To be honest, after a lifetime working in and around schools, September 1st seems more like New Year.

And the thing is, you wake up on January 1st and the world is the same.

1/6 Menopause in Schools was a happy accident.

Maybe not an accident exactly, but it wasn't something I'd planned on. I took a coaching qualification during the pandemic. Because why not!
