While that may be true, the argument that the distance between Liverpool and Hull isn’t long enough to benefit from high speed rail, and the real problems are lack of electrification and bottlenecks particularly around Manchester and Leeds is persuasive #NorthernPowerhouseRail

The prices will really depend on much there is flexibility in the system vs how much PV, and on the rate of electrification. It’s not sure at all that prices will be mostly zero during sunny hours in 2030.

Almost certainly some form of the first. The issue with commuter service plans right now is actually building the expanded infrastructure and satisfying all the players involved, one of which is strongly opposed to electrification. I'd imagine this is about refinancing debt and building expertise.

I'm not against infill stops, but I've wondered how they will affect transit times. There's not that much distance to get up to speed on some sections. Although, electrification may help with that.

Reminder that overhead catenary trains are easier to maintain and cost less to operate than diesel trains. Rail electrification doesn't just eliminate tailpipe emissions, it leads to faster, more frequent service and higher ridership.

I got the impression from the press release that the service isn’t permanent - just until the east river tunnel fixes are complete. Though this service might build some “momentum” more Metro North service and maybe even electrification.

I can't wait for Metro North to extend third rail to Albany M9s running the whole way would be funny. Ideally it should be overhead wire all the way to Penn as its the superior form of electrification but I know that's not going to happen.

California cities are adopting new “AC to Heat Pump” (AC2HP) codes requiring old AC units be replaced with efficient heat pumps to cut pollution & support climate goals. Many are also passing electric-readiness & flexpath codes to prepare homes for electrification.
These California Cities Are Leading Fossil Fuel Transition in Buildings
This Fall, California cities are taking action to pass critical laws that will increase access to clean, efficient cooling and heating appliances for their residents, and more cities are ready to…

Cheaper copper and other minerals? Big push towards AI, data centres, electrification and generation etc likely to drive more mining.
Mines are such slow beasts though, bust could have already come by the time the capacity comes online

Moving on to c. 1913 after electrification and perhaps the most well-known image of the trestle. We're looking east here as the pipeline bridge can be seen in the distance. Note the concrete footings and formwork for a new, sturdier structure within the rickety-looking trestle.

The solution is to shift focus away from li-ion battery powered everything and pure electrification. Instead, look at either hydrogen or syn-fuels as the most part of the solution.

Gut reaction: weird to split service between Amtrak and MNRR on a route like this.
But more service to Albany is exciting.
Maybe we can start talking electrification...?

ACTUAL GOOD TRANSIT NEWS ALERT: Metro-North will run to Albany, starting this spring.
And Amtrak is adding back one train to NYP-ALB and capping prices at $99.

We welcomed discussion on the electrification of EU industry, as Slovakia 🇸🇰 has one of the highest shares of industry in GDP among MS, with significant part of hard-to-electrify sectors.
Crucial role of #nuclear in decarbonisation must be acknowledged in line w/ technology neutrality.

Right. Electrification is a much easier (for a given value of "easy) option for flights under 1000km. For longer-haul flights it'll have to be ammonia or something.
But also, the best way to decarb aviation is... build way more high speed rail.

Canada needs to step up and become a leader in conversion to green electrification. After all, if trump thinks oil and gas is the business to be in, then we know it's done for.
