#Excluded
FDR excluded Black Americans from many New Deal programs.
No, we’re not going to “class consciousness” our way out of racism and anti-semitism.

Guess who gets excluded from Trump's canceled flights?

Billionaires in private planes.
Private planes make up nearly 12% of all flights.

And yet even with major air traffic control safety concerns, the DOT is planning to exclude them from its plan to order 10% cut in flights at 40 major U.S. airports.

People who can afford to charter flights will be fine. Everyone else is screwed.

Sikhs are not vegetarians, but most langar meals are veg so that strangers (traditionally often Hindus) won’t be excluded.

The main gurdwara in Amritsar is the largest soup kitchen in the world, feeding 50,000-100,000 people everyday.

Different enough to be excluded but not different enough to “deserve” accommodations, lovely place to be

“Transgender people are more than just a political issue, and we're in danger. We need all the help we can get from friends, neighbors, politicians, and school administrators.. trans people are increasingly discriminated against, excluded, and treated without respect or dignity…

Help us.”
For @teenvogue.com I wrote about the death of trans athlete Lia Smith and how trans youth kind themselves with central pillars of their lives being constantly ripped away from them because of politics. www.teenvogue.com/story/politi...

your honor I typed that into the box labeled ChatGPT, not the box labeled Google, therefore it must be excluded

Correct. Particularly when private aircraft are excluded. The airspace is either safe or it’s not

very funny to imagine that you could ask ChatGPT how to do a murder and force it to be excluded at your murder trial, but if you'd googled it instead it would be fair game

this article gets at something that has long bothered me about Men In Crisis discourse: women are always excluded from these issues, which affect us just as much if not more. This means any solution to the crisis must necessarily favor men at womens expense

which is just doing patriarchy wokely!
What Did Men Do to Deserve This?
Changes in the economy and in the culture seem to have hit them hard. Scott Galloway believes they need an “aspirational vision of masculinity.”

This reflects an authoritarian indicator we identified in our assessment: assault on public knowledge and civil society. It mirrors Cold War propaganda, presenting a whitewashed, idealized past to define a desired future, reinforcing who is valued and who is excluded from economic opportunity.

One of my theories as to why some of the virulent manifestations of extreme behavior is coming from silicon valley billionaires is the new/old money divide. They were excluded from some of old money wealth stuff and it made them crazy.
We don’t have their wealth, but we have the power to take away their seat at the table. The rich know this, resent it, and legitimately fear this.
Men like this can't imagine a world where their wealth won't automatically buy them access, influence, and power.

won't feel like a proper trans person until a child asks me if I'm a boy or a girl and their bigoted parent disdainfully pulls them away. it's such a classic and yet I've been so far excluded from that experience

5/ The report includes a footnote outlining the range of literature she used, noting that she excluded “feminist social science”. The judge questioned this.

She tried to dismiss the concern by saying that those body of works focus on changing society, so she couldn’t take them into account.

After the referendum, the BBC chief Lord Hall ordered the BBC to treat Brexit as a done deal, a decision which all but wholly excluded Remainer opinion from the BBC for over two years, thus grossly biasing the debate. It was a grotesque abuse of democracy.

"excluded from the world of informal exchanges" got me. That's the bit we still do really really badly. African scientists unable to get visas to attend conferences, mothers struggling with childcare, class exclusion. If we turn it into a "theft" narrative it's easy to say "oh well I don't do that".

regular reminder to SW moots (and everyone else less directly):

i would like to share your promo, but if you don’t use alt text, or if you use it in malicious ways (see thread), im going to have to avoid doing that.

it’s important to me that my followers who use screen readers aren’t excluded.

In doing this, the AFL excluded people it deemed undesirable to its image–women, blacks, Asians, children, and the masses of eastern Europeans toiling in America’s huge factories.

“Franklin did not succeed, partly because she was working on her own without a peer with whom to swap ideas. She was also excluded from the world of informal exchanges in which Watson and Crick were immersed.”

This is the painful part.

Just gonna put this here

My earlier post (deleted) about spreading positivity & giving thanks/shout out to some people was never meant to make anyone feel excluded.

Anyone that knows me would know that is completely against my nature.

Lots to unpack here, but one general point to make concerns the way in which creating categories of "temporary" residents leads to just this sort of thinking: people who live, work and study among us, contributing to the country, but are nonetheless excluded from the social contract.
New from me: UCP members will vote on a raft of policy proposals at the party's AGM, including resolutions

• requiring temporary residents to pay more for healthcare
• banning the display of flags on gov property representing “special interest groups"
• buying the Alberta operations of the RCMP.

This is most revealing part of @matthewcobb.bsky.social's piece on Rosalind Franklin: "Franklin did not succeed, partly because she was working on her own without a peer with whom to swap ideas. She was also excluded from the world of informal exchanges in which Watson and Crick were immersed."
If you believe either that Franklin discovered the double helix, and / or Watson and Crick stole her data, ask yourself how you know this. Then take a read of this article.
If I see one more stupid Rosalind Franklin take I'm going to lose my mind. Thank god for @matthewcobb.bsky.social and @nccomfort.bsky.social. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
