It'd be a solid choice. Also, modeling and fx units have come a long way, so you can go pretty far with a solid but not especially powerful amp and add something like a Helix or NeuralDSP when you want more tonal options.

It's a pain in the neck to reassemble the mix, too, because FX are separate tracks.
