A young man sits at a rainy, rural bus stop late at night and laments his soggy fate.

While moping, the young man's stomach growls, and he digs a wrinkled bundle out of his bag.

Unwrapping the bundle, it is revealed to be a sandwich made with some fairly sad leftovers. The man sighs, and prepares to eat it, when a shadow suddenly falls on him.

A stranger looms over the young man and smiles at him, showing every one of his unsettling sharp teeth.

Page 1 of 4. Noah is startled by the arrival of the tall, dark stranger whose kitchen he is poking around in. He nervously explains he was looking for something to drink, but interrupts himself to ask what the stranger is holding behind his back.

Page 2 of 4. The stranger explains the kitchen was empty, so he's bought some food. It is an odd collection of things that don't seem to go together. Bread, eggs, carrots, ginger, and so on. He asks if Noah can cook something, and Noah promises to try.

Page 3 of 4. Noah begins to cook, throwing the sliced carrots into the boiling tomato sauce, and beginning to toast the bread in the pan. He cracks an egg in a hole he has made in the toast.

Noah plates his creation: tomato sauce with toast sticks (for dipping), pickled ginger and egg toast. The stranger asks if he can eat it, looking slightly terrifying, and Noah tells him to go ahead.

Page 1. Noah wakes to the sound of Raith singing the Saint Lucia song as if it was the soundtrack to a horror movie. When asked what he is doing, Raith explains he is following the ancient human ritual of Saint Lucia, when you are supposed to sing in the dark. Noah asks what is in it for Raith, and Raith says he was told there would be snacks. Noah promises to make him some.

Page 2. The two men in the kitchen, getting ready to bake saffron buns. Panel two shows all of the ingredients: butter, flour, yeast, milk, sugar, saffron, raisins and eggs. Noah begins the baking process by melting butter and mixing it with room-temperature milk and crumbled yeast. Raith is fascinated by the bubbles, and Noah explains how yeast works.

Page 3. The next steps in the baking process, including mixing in the flour. The dough is left to prove. Raith is upset at having to wait, as he is impatient to eat the buns.

First page of four. Noah despairs at having missed the bus: he has nowhere else to go. The tall stranger pats him on the head to calm him down and offers to let Noah stay in the stranger's house.

Second page of four. Noah hesitates, uncertain if he should take the risk, but does take the stranger's hand. He wonders if it's okay, but the stranger assures him it's fine; he's just repaying Noah for sharing his sandwich.

Third page of four. They arrive at the house, which is dark and we can't see much of it. The stranger shoves Noah into a room, tells him he can stay there, and then vanishes, slamming the door behind him.

Fourth page of four. Noah alone in the room, talking to himself. He asks himself what he was even thinking; the stranger might be an axe murderer. He does lie down on the matress on the floor, though; if he dies in his sleep, at least he will die dry.

The stranger says the last bus for the day has already left and the blond man pauses in the middle of eating his sandwich. He looks surprised and very annoyed.

Comic page 1 of 4. Noah and the tall stranger pick up their empty plates and head back into the house. All the while, Noah is going through an internal monologue, wondering if he should stay here. At the end, he argues against himself, telling himself that the man could still be an axe-murderer for all he knows.

Comic page 2 of 4. Noah throws open the door to the room he spent he night in. He starts packing up, ready to get out and run away. In the middle of this he stops, and asks himself where he would go. He finds no answer, and is both sad and frustrated. In the final panel, he stands back up, looking back towards the kitchen.

Comic page 3 of 4. A hesistant Noah speaks to the stranger again. He asks if the man really trusts him enough to let him stay: he hasn't even told the man his name. The man asks if he stores his trustworthiness in his name. Noah is confused, but says no. The man asks, excited, if he's staying, and Noah says he will.

Comic page 4 of 4. Noah holds out his hand and says he ought to ask the man's name. The man replies with his name, "Wraith", spelled like the type of ghostly undead creature. Noah repeats it, but this time it is spelled without the first letter, making it seem more like an actual name. Wraith says yes. Noah smiles and introduces himself, and then asks if Wraith was eating ginger straight from the jar just now. Which he admits that he was. Noah says it's a good thing that Noah will be taking care of the food from now on.

I keep opening a page of the next part of #FeedingOfMonsters, looking at a roughly doodled panel full of food, and going "hah, looks like a problem for Future Me" and closing it again.

the day when Future Me is going to have to deal with that is rapidly approaching, and Current Me is not helping

The tall, scary-looking stranger smiles and invites Noah to eat outside on the porch. They sit, and the stranger eats his egg toast with such enthusiasm that Noah marvels at it.

Noah has a moment of introspection, jokingly reflecting that he didn't die during the night, like he thought he would. He thanks the stranger for letting him stay, then says he will get out of the stranger's hair soon. The stranger asks where he's going.

Noah says he has no real plan, but that he's flat broke and needs to go somewhere to find a job. After a moment of silence, the stranger asks if this somewhere - this place - is good enough. Noah is confused.

The stranger explains: if Noah cooks for him, he will give Noah the money he needs. He says the house is big, and there is room for Noah; he tells Noah to stay and pats him on the head. This startles Noah, and the page ends on his moment of confusion.
