Christian Mungiu's #Graduation is right up there with his best work. An involving and complex character study that poses difficult moral questions while also shining a light on corrupt, state bureaucracy. #Film2017

#WindRiver was a little too conventional and wrought for my taste, but the stunning landscape photography, subtle Nick Cave/Warren Ellis score and a really terrific performance from Jeremy Renner elevate the experience somewhat. #Film2017

Everyone walks a delicate tightrope but the writing and wonderful performances make #TheDeathOfStalin an exemplary tragic farce. The direction from Iannucci is much more cinematic than 'In The Loop' as well. #Film2017

I found Alice Lowe's #Prevenge to be a fun, well directed slice of horror. However, I am not sure that it has the emotional depth to become a really memorable horror film over the long term. #CatchUp2017 #Film2017

Quite impressed by Chris Kelly's #OtherPeople. There are many cliches in terms of the narrative, but it is well written and very well acted, and does end up being an effecting experience. #2017CatchUp #Film2017

Bertrand Bonello's #Nocturama was a case of style (sometimes admittedly, an arresting and evocative use of style) over substance for me. Tedium seeped into its lengthy running time on more than one occasion. #CatchUp2017 #Film2017

Dee Rees’ #Mudbound is a ripe, superbly crafted period film. The narrative does hit some familiar notes and a few of the characterisations can lack a little subtlety. Yet on the whole, it is a powerful work. I am excited to see what Rees works on next. #CatchUp2017 #Film2017

It was a documentary double last night, Yance Ford's #StrongIsland and Raoul Peck's #IAmNotYourNegro. Both fantastic examples of the craft, seek them out if you can. #CatchUp2017 #Film2017

Plowing on with my #2017CatchUp. Last nights film was James Gray's #TheLostCityofZ. For me, a very interesting but flawed film. Beautifully put together, Darius Khondji's cinematography a joy. However, chock-full of representational problems. #Film2017

The #2017CatchUp continued apace with Yorgos Lanthimos’ disquieting #TheKillingofaSacredDeer. It needles familial anxieties with surgical precision. #Film2017

My #2017CatchUp continued with @hopedickle's wonderful 'The Levelling', an intimate study into loss and guilt, told with precision. #BritishFilm #Film2017
