In my last post, I profiled the three Royals hitting prospects currently playing in the AFL with the Surprise Saguaros: Blake Mitchell, Daniel Vazquez, and Carson Roccaforte. The Saguaros have a double header today, and both Vazquez and Roccaforte had solid performances at the plate in a 6-3 win over the Glendale Desert Dogs in game one.

The Arizona Fall League is in full swing, as the Surprise Saguaros, which has prospects in the Royals system, are 5-4, good for second in the AFL standings. Kansas City has eight players on the Surprise roster (five pitchers and three hitters), as well as a manager and strength coach, as highlighted by the Raising Royals PD Twitter account.

After talking about Sam Long in my debut post of the Royals Pitcher Profile series, I decided to focus on another arbitration-eligible pitcher who is a bit more high-profile. That is none other than Kris Bubic, who will be entering his last year of team control in 2026. Last season was an interesting year for Bubic in both good and bad ways.

September 15th to October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, and it's definitely a time to celebrate Hispanic and Latino culture. That is true in baseball, with the celebratory month taking place at the end of the season and the start of the postseason. The Royals celebrated Viva Los Royals on September 6th against the Twins (which technically is before Hispanic Heritage Month, but they didn't have an ideal homestand at the start of the month).

Much has been made on Royals Twitter about the Royals' parting ways with assistant hitting coaches Keoni DeRenne and Joe Dillon this week. While Kansas City retained Alec Zumwalt as lead hitting coach, the changes with DeRenne and Dillon demonstrate that Royals GM JJ Picollo is committed to making changes in the hitting department, as promised in his end-of-the-year press conference.

The Division Series round has begun, with the Brewers and Blue Jays absolutely crushing the Cubs and Yankees, respectively (which I'm all for). The Phillies were up early on the Dodgers, but a three-run home run from Teoscar Hernandez off former Royals pitcher Matt Strahm (of course) has Los Angeles up in the late innings. (Update: The Dodgers ended up winning game one against the Phillies 5-3.)
