#FrogBit
I wonder if Frogbit is increasing and/or spreading north. It's locally abundant in the Pocklington Canal, where it hadn't been seen for decades. In East Anglia it's often in quite eutrophic, duckweed-soup ditches.

Can't tell if this is Hypnotoad or Robin, but here's some African Dwarf frog breathing while hanging on to some frogbit.

A personal favourite which just disappears in winter and reappears in May. Frogbit, Hydrocharis morsus-ranae, is like a mini lily which provides cover, good newt egg laying habitat and is very nutrient hungry further protecting against algal blooms

Aggressive and invasive, Amazon frogbit is being sold in online stores right across Australia, and has been found in the Northern Territory for the first time.

Please enjoy these snail pics because it's a fuck fest in there. I think there are two living Ramshorn babies from that photographed clutch.

wild! I have boesemani rainbows and I'm pretty sure one just dashed at the surface for a bite and sent some frogbit sailing

and more immersive aquarium furnishings... fishtank partitions... landscapes with floating frogbit or duckweed on top... roots trailing down into the water... maybe even a hydroponics function where you can grow flowers in the top part....

Dominant macrophyte in River Little Ouse below Lakenheath Fen, besides Arrowhead, is the Yellow Water-lily now in full bloom. Also a few Frogbit (Hydrocharis morsus-ranae). Common fern-like #aquaticplants in this reach are Lesser Water-Parsnip and River Water-Dropwort. #wildflowerhour #flower 13/23

If you live on a lake or river, please spray or hand-pull this plant and landfill. Be gentle to avoid dislodging any of their turions. Here is what the leaf look like compared to a loonie and an US quarter. #FrogBit #aquaticplants #InvasiveSpecies #lakelife #conservation #ais

Update: it's been a couple days since I replanted, already looking waaaay better. It took like six water changes to get most of the debris off the bottom. Still a lot of work to do, but it doesn't suck to look at anymore so that's good.

I had a thriving shrimp tank last summer; it crashed. I am trying again with a tank of ghost shrimp, neocaridina, some snails, & 3 neon blue rasboras. I just moved them from a 5- to a 10-gallon; that was nerve-wracking. Ghost shrimp were especially tricky. #scienceclassroom #stem #keepingthingsalive

Hilariously enough? I'm not sure how it's just *this* healthy. I do water changes based on chemistry, add water to account for what's taken up by the plants or evaporated (though the frogbit keeps a lid on that). There's a simple sponge filter to act as a bacteria reservoir & a heater. That's it.

Aw, my betta jumped out of the tank! I found him on the ground behind the tank. I have a lid, but it is open in the back. I'm surprised he jumped considering how much frogbit is on the surface.

* frogbit.

I'll post pics of the tank in a few minutes. I just did a water change so everything needs to settle down. Some of the roots on the frogbit are hella long. The fish were checking them out after I stirred things up a little, lol.
