Here's a nice #gadgetoftheday - this board¹ manages from 3-to-6 Lithium cells, and has USB-C charging and discharging at up to 140W. The chip used (IP2366²) has a datasheet (glory be!), can be optionally controlled over i2c, and costs under $2.
