It’s about “missing” denticles for #SharkScaleSaturday. Leopard sharks have relatively few missing but the anal fin surface and the caudal trailing edges reveal some gaps. Good to know!
I use an old GelSight for surface detail scans, but I couldn't find anything interesting for full 3D objects. They usually either require spray or have terrible software.
This one looks very promising. Now I just need to persuade the lab to buy one, hahaha!

Sparsh is a family of SSL models trained with 460k+ tactile images from GelSight, GelSight mini and DIGIT.
Sparsh is general-purpose and shows strong performance in many tasks. One could decode representations from Sparsh into normal and shear fields to train downstream policies.
