#GeoSpatial
Had a lovely chat this morning with someone who came into the store looking for geospatial career advice. Idk man, the industry is big, always changing. No one knows the future. I'm acutely aware that most of the advice I ever got was complete BS.
I've had awesome mentors so I try to pay it forward.

Need a sign that says "The Geospatial Career Counselor is IN" or something. It's not a money-making service but as long as it's just once in a while, it makes me feel useful in a way that the vast majority of advice given to me as a recent graduate definitely wasn't.

To observe where flooding was most severe, I learned kepler.gl, an open-source TypeScript library for GPU-rendering of geospatial data.
Large-scale WebGL-powered Geospatial Data Visualization Tool
Kepler.gl is a powerful web-based geospatial data analysis tool. Built on a high performance rendering engine and designed for large-scale data sets.

🗺️ New raster overlays in Climate Engine! 🗺️

You can now add contextual overlays to your CE maps:
🌍 Landcover (NLCD, ESA WorldCover),
🏛️ Land ownership (Surface Management Agency)
💧 Wetlands (NWI, VBET)

What layers do you want to see added to Climate Engine?

#GISChat I googled different certs, I came across the following 4:

1.) GISP
2.) ASPRS Certification
3.) GeoInt - Geospatial Intelligence Certification
4.) Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)

I know a lot of people have their GISP, but who has these other certifications?

get a load of this. niantic pivoted to a AI/VR geospatial mapping company. so like they just took ALL THAT POKEMON GO DATA and are doing fuck knows with it. they sold the games division. i had to learn all this because i have a 9 year old child who is squeezing me for coins on a regular basis.

Next semester I'm teaching an advanced #GIS course, Urban & Business GIS, for the first time in several years.

My question to you: what are the *most important* skills / traits you are looking for in new geospatial hires in 2026?

I have my thoughts, but I'd love your insights!

MapGO.io - 80 clicks from Google Search.

Not a flood, but every one is a person discovering location intelligence-minus the code and GIS jargon.

Simple answers. No barriers. That’s the new standard.

Feels like the beginning of something big.
