The legislation establishes the First Peoples’ Assembly as a permanent representative body to advise the government, under a new statutory corporation called Gellung Warl.
Gellung Warl means ‘tip of the spear’ or ‘pointed spear’ in Gunaikurnai language. 📜 🗃️ firstpeoplesvic.org/treaty/treat...

The sovcits used to meet here every Friday.

Funnily, now in the same spot every Saturday, medieval re-enactors play with wooden swords

Returning to Bairnsdale along the East Gippsland Rail Trail, I managed to take shelter from the rain under the road bridge.

The old rail bridge to the left.

A nice spot to sit and take a break today on Gunaikurnai Country.

This is 9 or 10 km up the Tanjil River from Willow Grove. Obviously I didn't make it much further than this given the pace of the water, despite best efforts.

Even as someone who would self-describe as atheist if your average self-described atheist wasn't both a sex pest and a piece of shit, I can acknowledge that GunaiKurnai Country is a place of gods.

Moving house has been huge, physically and emotionally, and even though I knew kayaking had worked wonders on my chronic pain, I didn't really understand how much until the pain started again after I had gone two months without a paddle.

I made it out onto GunaiKurnai country this afternoon.

Even better. I am the product of white generations but I have an Indigenous Flag. I will not walk under the "cronulla" emblem so....hopefully the GunaiKurnai won't mind.

Wow. Incredible article with some beautiful photos included. ✨

"GunaiKurnai oral traditions hold that such caves weren’t used for ordinary living. They were only frequented by special individuals, mulla-mullung – medicine men and women who wielded powerful knowledge."
Indigenous knowledges - so much is gained when archeologists work with First Nations knowledge holders:
