As I saw a raptor circle a patch of woodland yesterday I instinctively thought buzzard but something was off. Lifting my camera I thought, perhaps a Goshawk stretching its legs? Then it dawned on me I was watching a Hen Harrier (f) wheeling around. Won’t forget that in a hurry! #HantsBirds

A noticeable increase in Redwing calls over my garden today in SW Hampshire. Previously getting singles during daylight hours. (Ignore the Hooded Crow false pos.!) #birding #hantsbirds

Three additions to the Titchfield Haven patch list this year: Caspian Gull, Mark F's Hudsonian Godwit, and Richard L's Night Heron 🙂 Even better that the 1st Caspian Gull was followed by more! Big flock of White-fronted Geese also lovely to see. #HantsBirds #PWC2025

Pleased to find some W-f Geese locally this afternoon at Chilling, Hants, part of the current impressive influx. Obscured by maize stubble and viewed thru a hedge! #hantsbirds

Can't go to Portsmouth without visiting the Purple Sandpipers! Could only find one by Southsea Castle this morning though they do blend in well. A fun morning with ferry and buses #HantsBirds #LowCarbonBirding

Had a brilliant Boxing Day of birds seeing White-fronted Geese and getting great views of a White-tailed Eagle at Harbridge. Other highlights between there and a look at Blashford Lakes included Goosanders, Kestrel, Red Kite, Stonechat and Long-tailed Tit. #12DaysWild #Birds #UKWildlife #HantsBirds

Grey Partridges were a nice surprise this morning, Dunbridge just North of Romsey #Hantsbirds
Me and the Farmer…
Grey Partridge, in a covey of 9 birds, quite unusual locally. Get on fine, as the song goes. By the House Martin’s no less! Now I doubt many birders have good things to say when it comes to B…

A stomp round Matley Wood area NF for the winter bird survey was surprisingly productive. 1x Dartford and 4x Stonechat was a real surprise, the cold has normally displaced them by now. Approx 300 Redwing and maybe 50 Fieldfare in very vocal feeding flocks. Best was a Snipe. No raptors. #hantsbirds

Annoyingly missed a Caspian Gull in the field as scope stayed home, but camera picked it up in the background when I was checking different gulls 🤦‍♀️ Been great to finally have some on patch this year! Hopefully more to come #HantsBirds #LowCarbonBirding

Sometimes the gulls at Titchfield Haven are more obliging and roost on East Meadows though today they were still rather mobile. Smart Yellow-legged Gull joined the flock with many dark Herring too #HantsBirds

I had a day in the New Forest on Weds, so 4 from Shatterford + one from Holbury:
1. Crossbills around the car park
2. Lesser Spotted Woodpecker flying over my head
3. Ravens cronking
4. Siskins calling
5. The Boat-tailed Grackle still hanging around the same
residential road in Holbury

New Forest bird survey today near Matley Wood. I popped in for the Great Grey Shrike ✔️ and was lucky enough to connect with both Crossbill ✔️and Redpoll ✔️ flocks whilst walking (all year ticks). The survey was pretty poor except for a mahoosive mixed finch and thrush flock #hantsbirds
