Okay, maybe a fact most people know already. But today I learned that the famous Ode by #Horace which starts with the line ‘Nunc bibendum est’ was a celebration of the death of #Cleopatra. Clearly, I need to get back into a closer reading of primary source material. #hellenistichistory #Latin

In November, John Serrati published two chapters examining military settlers in the Hellenistic world. Military 'katoikoi' within the Seleukid Empire (Seleukids at War) and military 'kleruchs' in Egypt (Coins, Riches, and Lands).
