#Herefords
Back to 1936, my mother was visiting Douthit Herefords in St. Francis Kansas. Ranch might have been called something else that far back. Their advertising only says "over eighty years." I want to find out the connection between families. I believe a Douthit bought a home in Mt. Airy, NC near ours.

Its that time of year again: a male Snow Flea, one of 3 seen yesterday in woodland on the Shrops/Herefords border. These 4mm relatives of Scorpionflies live in moss (esp. Polytrichum & relatives) & are winter active as adults. Not fleas of course but they can jump a bit.

My ex had a ranch. 1100 acres. In a good year, it could support 60 head of adult cattle. After 2011, they sold off the entire herd of Black Angus and kept only Herefords and Santa Gertrudis. Not enough water or grass. Cows ate the prickly pear pads for moisture.

And how were Angus and the Herefords this morning?

My ex had a small ranch with about 60 head of adult cattle.
Ranchers care - a lot - about their animals. His ranch had nearly all heifers, and 2 bulls. He named some of the more docile & affectionate Herefords. If one of them died, or had a stillborn calf, the grief was palpable.

Highlands seem quite small when compared to our Herefords!

A friendly herd of curious cows lives by Castle Fraser, and comes to the fence to say hello (polled herefords?). I learned that aIl bovines have mandatory registration in the UK and their movement is tracked from birth to death with ear tags and individual passports to control spread of disease.

We also had a big garden and half a beef in the fridge from Granddad’s ranch. He raised registered Herefords. I’d give anything to have jarred peaches from Grandma’s orchard and homemade pickles. Things I took for granted as a child.

My husband had a herd of 20 or so polled Herefords that would occasionally escape en masse down the road.

Does Josh still work at Brookfield? He’s never mentioned. Couldn’t he furtle the Herefords or whatever it was that needs doing? #TheArchers

Dawn right I’m going to enjoy a hot honey pizza, arancini and dark chocolate brownie dessert after getting back from an Everton win, at Herefords own award winning Leaven Pizza 👍

My grandfather had Friesians on the farm in Ireland (called Holsteins in Canada). We had Herefords in ontario. Dairy is a lot of work.
