Like the ones who went there during Covid who complained about the quarantine and the ones who didn't carry medical insurance that got Covid and ended up in ICU and going broke! Or who lost their homes in FL because they were under/uninsured & underwater due to FL RE prices.

#1 My mother lives hours away in a state I already think has one of the worst healthcare systems in the area. I found out this morning that she's been in the ICU for four fucking days! Not one phone call from the hospital!

tbh I think it's a psych coping mechanism. I've talked to people who were re-assigned to the covid ICU and in their words it was "trying to make people comfortable while they died, then moving on to the next." One way of dealing with that moral injury is to pretend it wasn't so bad for the healthy.
I've also seen health care workers minimize COVID. It's very strange and unsettling given everything we've witnessed.

Just updated the IBCC chapter on cholecystitis & cholangitis.
These patients are often initially triaged to the ICU.
Understanding these diseases can help us direct patients to interventions they need.
Let’s talk about four pearls 😁

While there were a couple of Influenza cases reported last week (Oct 5 to 11) in MB, all serious outcomes were associated with COVID-19 (22 hospital admits, 5 ICU admits, and 4 fatalities). Interestingly, more people are vaccinated against Influenza than COVID-19.

💯 Maybe more useful in the outpatient arena where there are fewer options. In ICU I hardly ever use fluoroquinolones.

🍿 Chef (2014) brought me back to my residency days in a Baltimore ICU, when the attending mentioned during rounds that he saw the movie with his grandson and enjoyed the scenes of food being cooked, if not the humor. A movie made for Netflix before Netflix made movies.

My wife had two experiences like this (posted with consent):
- ruptured appendix, disbelief about pain tolerance, ended up in ICU
- internal bleeding, 1.5l blood loss, took a lot to persuade ambulance/first doctor to take a look as "she wasn't screaming from pain", then emergency OP within 2h

My personal experiences of the NHS have generally been very good, but I was shocked by the recent waits a relative of mine had via NHS Scotland. Had to wait months for an angiogram. Then told he needed a heart bypass ASAP, waited in ICU for 10 days (!) to be transferred to another for the op.

Mission 321 The man lay in the ICU, his head wrapped in bandages. Police Commissioner Saswat P B stood by his bedside, speaking in a measured tone. "You were hit badly on the head. You're lucky to be alive. You were working on Mission 321—probably cracked it too, because you called me. But before you could tell me anything, the culprit attacked you."
