It cited local media reports that Google search services were also restored for some users across Iran. Internet monitoring group Netblocks said traffic levels later fell again on Sunday after what it described as a “brief and heavily filtered restoration of select Google and messaging services.” Some communications services have already resumed: - Outgoing international calls were restored last Tuesday - Text messaging resumed on Saturday. - ⁠Some users also reported renewed access to WhatsApp today, according to AFP. Late Saturday, state-linked Tasnim reported that authorities announced internet access would be gradually restored, without providing a timeline. It reported that local messaging applications would soon be activated on Iran’s domestic intranet. The blackout has led to increased reliance on the intranet for banking, delivery services, ride-hailing platforms, and local media websites, as state television has also promoted local apps such as Rubika, Xinhua reported Officials have issued unclear signals on timing. Mohammad Seraj, a member of Iran’s Parliament’s social commission, said full access to the global internet is expected to be restored nationwide on Monday or, at the latest, Tuesday, according to Khabar Foori, adding that social media platforms would also soon be unblocked. Xinhua reported that local media cited Iran’s top cyberspace authority as saying access would remain restricted until officials confirm the restoration of full security. AFP also reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian told a cabinet meeting he had recommended to the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council that internet restrictions be lifted as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the chief executive of Irancell, Iran’s second-largest mobile phone operator, was dismissed for failing to comply with the government’s decision to shut down the internet, Fars news agency reported.
