now the state also gives them Eid-al-Fitr off and has "excused absence" rules for Hindu, Sikh, Orthodox, etc holidays where students aren't penalized for skipping school for church

Daughter’s preschool is closed today for holiday/inservice and she has been so well-behaved while I’ve been working all day that I’m convinced she’s going to burn the house down tonight.

I’m already seeing the affects of threats to Medicaid. I could very well lose my job which is incredibly insignificant when families rely on Medicaid to keep their children alive. We had a inservice on a breathing treatment machine yesterday; it cost $15k out of pocket 😞

Today’s gratitude
Monthly docent inservice—we focused on the glass gallery. A very beautiful space in the gallery with each piece a donation from a single donor…it includes a Chihuly piece of course. A few errands after and took myself out to lunch. Whew! I needed a nap. A very good day.

We were inspired by Richard McCann’s keynote, explored Learning for Sustainability, developed our use of Notebook LM, and took part in workshops focused on strengthening learning, teaching & assessment. Departments also had time to plan and collaborate.

Setting aside all of the awful *external* stuff, I would never ever say that having my kids home all the time is easy, ever. It's not easy during winter break, it's not easy when we have four-day weekends due to teacher inservice. Maybe a particular kind of person finds it rewarding, but easy? No.

So true. Our elementary school experienced a dramatic rise in bullying during the first Trump term, so much so that we had a 2 day inservice to address the situation. My conclusion? Our children were watching. And learning. From guess who? And you're right! Many angry, entitled white boys.
