Nothing comes even remotely close to a Friday Halloween night in New York City. The girls in the LIRR station restroom are helping everyone with their make up. A guy got on the 4 train dressed as the 4 train. The food truck in Union Square is blasting Somebody's Watching Me. Absolutely perfect

I won’t bore you with my day, but I saw a bee-line bus in Manhattan today and it took exactly 6 minutes and 27 seconds to get from the 4/5/6 platform to LIRR track 304 at Grand Central.

Halloween weekend going home on the LIRR when you work on Saturday is truly the 2nd or 3rd rung of Dante’s hell. I must be old when my only reaction to young women’s skimpy costumes is, “Aren’t you cold? FFS put on a coat!” At least I have train beer.

Autumn is in full swing, and leaves are falling from the trees—which can be a hassle on the tracks!
When trains run over fallen leaves, they leave a slippery coating on the rail that causes train wheels to slide.

Called sandbagging. Sometimes I wonder though. If the LIRR said it would cost $50m/mile to string wires on its diesel lines, transit advocates would say they’re sandbagging. Then again…Caltrain actually did it and that’s what it cost 😬

the brooklyn clinics aren't currently protested/don't use escort programs. (but also, i live in BK & the clinic is easily accessible by bus, subway, and LIRR!)

A tough fall of trackwork will get tougher: there will be no LIRR service through Hicksville the weekend of November 7-8.
LIRR is going back to the pre-Third Track plan:
—Ronkonkoma trains will use DM's, operating BI-HOURLY via Babylon
—Huntington trains end at Mineola, buses to HVL, SYT, CSH, HUN

Deux-Montagnes seems to have a bunch of townhouses and semi-detached houses within walking distance of the train, which I think no part of LI has. But I still think transit and bike/bus mode share in Nassau would pick up a lot if the LIRR ran every 5 mins at peak/15 mins off-peak, no?

Does anyone at LIRR actually work and doesn't just spend every shift figuring out how to scam and cheat?
@mtaoig.bsky.social published yet another scathing report detailing brazen, widespread fraud. It just doesn't seem to end. 36 employees (7 supervisors) implicated.

Yes, and the unions refused, went to the Presidential Emergency Board, (appointed by Trump, who is very close to Bruce Blakeman, whose GOP machine is very close with the LIRR unions) which said the work rules should stay -- and they should get their raises.

"Pervasive?" Language matters.
In my 14 years at the LIRR I have never seen anyone do anything that violates the way we get paid.
Most of want to keep our pensions.
Most of us do the right thing.
Most of us make far less money than in the private sector.
When you swing widely you hit everyone. Stop.
