Extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (where a stellar-mass black hole orbits a supermassive black hole) have some really weird behaviour. Will we be able to study them with @LISACommunity? My latest blog looks at some of the details https://cplberry.com/2018/03/31/1608-08951/

Just a year ago LISA passed a major review with flying colours: The whole mission concept stood up to the intense scrutiny of ESA´s reviewers, who confirmed that LISA is sufficiently mature and mission development could proceed as planned.

Extreme-mass-ratio inspirals are a wonder opportunity for #GravitationalWave astronomy. There is only one currently scheduled mission that can detect them: @LISACommunity https://lisa.nasa.gov/ 💞💓❤️ #Astro2020

@LISACommunity @korol_valeria One of the @LISACommunity sources I'm most excited about are extreme mass-ratio inspirals: binaries of one stellar-mass compact object orbiting around a massive black hole. These complete a hug number of orbits, enabling precision measurements...

Putting together a few extreme-mass-ratio inspirals, we can start to reconstruct the mass distribution of massive black holes. @LISACommunity is sensitive to black holes with masses 10^4–10^7 times the mass of our Sun. We don't know what the distribution is like at the lower end!
