The first step towards saving our precious BBC: remove Robbie Gibb from the board | Ed Davey
The BBC belongs to all of us, and it is under attack as never before. The government must defend it from its enemies, within and without, says Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey

was thinking unironically it should perhaps be someone LibDem aligned - signals a change of direction without being an obvious land grab of the sort this lot seem allergic to - and at serious risk of persuading myself it should actually be Clegg

We often speak of the Greens alongside the LibDems - usually in the phrase "LibDem gain from Greens".

If the next government doesn't turn out to be a Green/LibDem coalition, I will eat my hat.
November 10, 2025 at 3:49 PM
If ppl vote for Greens in seats they can't win (95%+ of seats) they'll help Reform win by splitting the progressive vote. Greens best chance of maximizing seats is to vote tactically which means most will need to vote Labour & a big chunk Libdem. In seats they *can* win Lab/Libdems must vote Green.

I am a LibDem but they are behind the curve on this.

LibDem vs. Reform would be an interesting realignment.
Bear with me. This might be politics of the two party variety...?

I can’t vote in this country but I agree with you, Flick. Green/LibDem coalition would be ideal.

The Scottish LibDem youth wing only still exists because I pushed through a constitutional change to increase the max age to 30 because otherwise there would have been too few people left to run it in 2016.

I imagine things have changed a lot for it in the near decade since

Can’t tell you how often this happens in #LibDem meetings. Recently, I suggested a QR code. It couldn’t be executed for that medium. My suggestion put down - roundly by all the men. Later “A MAN” suggests having the QR code on xxxx instead.
It gets done. Everyone thanks him for his brilliant idea.

I am glad to see Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick could praise the heroism of Samir Zitouni, alongside LibDem leader Ed Davey, and MPs across different parties

Have a look at BBC Scotland. Apart from the National newspaper, every paper is viscerally opposed to SNP / Scottish Government and BBC always use their front pages to set their news agenda. Do Lab/Tory/ LibDem object? No - they feed their lines to the media and they are happy to cheerlead.

A Green/LibDem coalition government would be fantastic. In many ways the current government is worse than the previous one because the desire for (and their promise of) change has been totally unmet. Can't wait to see the back of them.
November 6, 2025 at 11:04 AM
Put that another way. Without LibDem supporting the Tories we would not have had Tory austerity or Brexit.

Significant numbers of Labour, LibDem and Green voters said they would even be willing to vote Tory to block Reform.

Talk of HMOs on #BBCPM No mention of the fact 'twas Tory LibDem coalition that placed limit of housing benefit on a single person under 35 at an HMO rate. Got that.
Low wage workers under 35 are expected to live in an HMO.
Of course HMOs are only "delivered" by private landlords

The vote on Oxford’s Congestion Charge is taken and goes broadly along party lines.

For removing the charge: 22 (Con, Lab, Ind)
Against removing the charge: 36 (LibDem, Green, Henley)
Abstain: 2 (Will Boucher-Giles, LibDem for Chesterton; Emma Markham, Green for Shrivenham)

Meanwhile Jamie Stone LibDem MP wants NHS Scotland to share our data with NHS England and by inference open up Scotland's personal health data up for Palantir to harvest ..

It's sad that Labour 'might' introduce PR only now because it may benefit them at the next GE. The Libdems advocate for PR whether it benefits them or not. It's a fair voting system in line with Libdem values.
November 5, 2025 at 7:09 PM
There indeed is the rub. As I've said, the only way out I can see is for a LibDem-Green alliance to somehow take office. As I've also said, stranger things have happened:

I agree, but I hope I'm proven wrong in the fullness of time just as I was just four years after I visited Berlin in 1985 (my photo) and feared the Wall would never come down.
