Lady Annabel Goldsmith has passed away at the age of 91.
The brilliant Society Hostess and daughter of the Marquess of Londonderry gave her name to the famous Annabel’s nightclub founded by her first husband, before she became the mistress and later wife of financier Sir James Goldsmith

Lady Annabel, born Vane-Tempest-Stewart, daughter of the 8th Marquess of Londonderry. Inspired Annabel’s, the exclusive Mayfair nightclub, opened in 1963 by her then husband, Mark Birley. A favourite haunt of mine in the early noughties. Later, married larger-than-life financier Sir James Goldsmith.

My ex-wife was from Kilkenny, and I worked for the Irish Tourist Board, freelance, for a while. I adore Ireland, had many laughs there (and scrapes with the then RUC). Got arrested once for calling 'Londonderry' 'Derry' as I crossed the border Never murdered a bird of prey though.
