#Lubuntu

- Another option is to use Linux in a virtual machine if you have the hardware to emulate Linux at a high enough speed. A distro like Lubuntu isn't particularly resource intensive and has a high probability of being emulable on your box.

Some stuff doesn't run on Linux, and it's on a laptop I'm selling, so most people prefer what they know.

I do have a Lubuntu laptop for Linux tasks, though it's not my daily driver.

the trick is to pidgeonhole yourself into like, mint or lubuntu on a walmart bargain laptop and not be able to run windows 11. advanced gambit.

i'm mad.

lubuntu + kde plasma takes less space than debian kde. that's crazy. who would have thought that a ubuntu flavor would be lighter in that case...

for those who are keeping score, the debian kde version install is in progress. please place your bets to see if it's gonna beat the record set by lubuntu of a disto taking less than 6Go of disk space (but was ugly AF, sorry lxqt fans).
oh so i'm learning that basic debian install let you chose your desktop environment.

i know what i'm trying tonight then ._.
i have a very old chromebook with very limited (and impossible to expand) disk space (15Go) so i'm doing experiment with it, trying to find the best linux distro that would fit on the smallest space (so i can have more than half that is not "system") but should also look good.

it's hard.

just noticed that debian (which can be relatively light iirc) has a "chose your desktop environment" at install so that may be my solution here. i'm trying that tonight with the combo with KDE and check if it beats basic lubuntu (clocked at 5Go occuped total).

Yeah fr need more catgirl distros.

Idk, since you've already tried Lubuntu and didn't like LXqt I'm not aware of a functional distro with a true gui that's as lightweight that isn't arch based.

I'm sure there is one I I'm just not aware of it :(

yeah. as i mention in the next post, lubuntu kinda fits the bills but lxqt is really... MEH (it tries really hard tho). installing kde plasma would work BUT i cannot remove lxqt without causing instabilities.

so it makes things complicated u_u...

last heresy i did was installing lubuntu and then installing kde plasma on it like an madgirl. it does work but it crashes when it goes to sleep AND it doesn't help with the "i need for it to take as little space as possible" when you have like 5 desktops environment on it.

Got lubuntu running on an old Chromebook. Exploring the command line. Feels so much easier than the last time I tried to learn this. Wonder what happened to my brain

C’est : long

Unrelated to SRB2 in general

After starting in #linux in 2024 with Linux Mint, then Lubuntu, now it's time to test out myself Debian 13. I heard good things about Debian 13 recently and decided to install it on my main pc with xfce4 as my desktop enviroment.

By far seems smooth on my machine.
