She ends up reflecting on it a lot- the different shape, differences in how things feel, the way girls’ society seems so novel to her, etc. Mai has struggled with a sense of insecurity for a long time, and her current situation has exasperated it. She’s become rather self conscious. She’s terrified that she’ll give herself away as ‘not a real girl,’ and afraid of the backlash that might bring on; whether that means losing her friends or bringing shame to her family. Her father’s words have stayed with her. She may not understand the reasoning, but she definitely internalized the idea that her sudden transition was an incredible disappointment, and a betrayal of her duties as the Hazuki heir. Additionally, her change from 'boy' to 'girl' has become one of the main lenses through which she interprets the world around her. If she notices a stereotype about girls may apply to a situation, she quickly links the two."

Taking some notes for a character analysis, and I honestly think this moment, where her ignorance is met with no anger, no disappointment, just a warm laugh and some encouragement- I think this moment was CRITICALLY important for #MaiNatsume

We see in flashbacks this is NOT how she was raised.

Listening to Mai's theme for the first time... immediately optimistic, upbeat and quick (spunky???) with some harder parts that don't feel aggressive, but strong. There are a few parts that feel like they're about to burst into song too.
