But PAs can also generate local benefits. Where “charismatic” large mammals – Big Five, giraffes, great apes – are present, PAs can become local economic assets through tourism🐘

We find that the negative effect of ethnic inclusion is offset–and eventually reversed–where large mammals are present.

Elephant facts.
I read several books about elephants yet, about their life, their social behaviour, their pregnancy of 22 months (the longest one among mammals), about their death and their grieving.

DO YOU KNOW 🐘 ELEPHANTS are the only species of mammals other than humans to have reconized death ritual. Elephants bury their dead and will re visit old graves. They've even been known to bury humans that have passed away.

🌍 In the 1850s, humans and their livestock weighed about as much as all wild mammals 🐋🐘 combined.
Today, they outweigh them nearly 20 to 1.
A quiet biomass revolution. Life reshaped to serve one species.

Since I had it out, how about a ringtail (Bassariscus astutus) from the same volume showing off its namesake tail. The coloring all done by hand.

Did you know that the Oxpecker bird has a symbiotic relationship with large mammals, like elephants. They get a steady food source, and the elephants get to be free of pests like skin parasites. 🐘

Today's Spirit Guide is Elephant!😄

The largest living land mammals, they can reach 13,000 to 24,000lbs and heights of 13' tall depending on the species. Spiritually, they represent royalty, strength, ancient power, fertility, aromatherapy, and are seen as sacred.
