today my local zoo announced they paid a hefty fee to take 3 orphaned manatees from sea world 🥹🫶 they will be rehabilitated and judged for release. a long term resident named stubby (who cannot be released due to injuries) is already taking on a surrogate mama role 😭💗💗💗💗

The PBE Copa identity for tonight is for the New York Voyagers. For this program, they become the Manatíes de Nueva York (New York Manatees) The idea here is to tie in with Puerto Rico and Puerto Rican culture and one of the unique animals that swim in the waters of Puerto Rico are manatees!

Manatees and dugongs also make high pitched vocalizations that can sound weirdly human-like sometimes, especially when distressed. That might have contributed something to an association with mermaid lore
