In Mesoamerica, rabbits are associated with the moon and fertility. The Nahuas believed that the deities diminished the moon's excessive brightness by throwing the rabbit on its surface. They also had rabbit deities called Centzon Totochtin, who ruled over pulque and drunkenness.

In my quantitative methods course, I have this data set on VOT in Mixtec. It's very simple in design (4 places of articulation, two word positions, 8 speakers), but you have to know what VOT is. It's perhaps not the very interesting linguistically, but it's phonetic data. Willing to share.

I made all these headpieces and did all the skull makeup in these :) I also took all of these photos save the pink photo, which was photographed by Andrea Hunter.

It's #Catrina season and I thought I'd talk a bit about them! Especially since there is such little Catrina presence on Bluesky.

Catrinas (female) and Catrins (male) are decorative skull makeup associated with Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexico. Learn more about their names and history ~ 🧵

I think D sounds would start with an N so Dúkú would be more like Ndúkú!

And my Mixtec doesn't have any X sounds at the end of a word! So I think it would be more like Ñoxo, like a vowel at the end of it!

Other than that it does sound vaguely familiar!! Mixtec is pretty cool

It's actually a replica of the original currently found in the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico. It's of mixtec origin, dating between 1200-1521 AD.
