Standing rainwater covering one or even both lanes has been reported at multiple spots along N.C. 12 from Duck to Hatteras village, as well as along numerous side streets and adjacent properties this morning.

NCDOT has announced that due to dangerous conditions caused by ocean overwash, NC12 is currently closed on Pea Island between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe. It is now also closed on Ocracoke Island between the NPS Pony Pens and the Ferry Terminal.

#NOKINGS Protest this morning in front of the local MAGA shop in Avon, on Hatteras Island, Outer Banks. The well attended group then peacefully marched up and back NC12, cheered on by the travelers driving by. Patriots all! NO KINGS!!!

NC12 is closed again between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe Tuesday afternoon due to ocean overwash, NCDOT said. Crews are working to repair the dune so it can be reopened.

At 9:15 p.m., the Dare County Sheriff reported that NC12 south of the Oregon Inlet Bridge at Pea Island has a lot of wet sand on the roadway covering markings. Drive with extreme caution.

Due to storm surges from Hurricane Erin, NC12 closed from Oregon Inlet to Hatteras Village at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
NCDOT said conditions are unsafe for drivers in that area.
