Sahiwal plant sues NEPRA over price | The Express Tribune
LAHORE: The Sahiwal Coal Power Plant (Huaneng Shandong Ruyi Pakistan Energy Ltd - HSRPEL) has filed a civil suit against the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPAG) and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), seeking to bypass the "lowest available price" rule for coal procurement. The power producer wants approval for costlier coal supply from a preferred supplier at a pre-agreed discount rate, a move critics warn could cost electricity consumers millions of dollars annually. According to documents available with the Express Tribune, HSRPEL claims that under the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) Implementation Agreement and provisions of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), it is entitled to procure fuel under mutually agreed contractual discounts with suppliers.

NEPRA decision on KE tariff alarms Power Division
ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has expressed serious concerns over the seven-year Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) decision recently issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for K-Electric, warning it could have far-reaching financial and policy implications. Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari has warned that such determinations could negatively impact investment confidence in future MYT periods. In a statement issued on the social media platform 'X' on Wednesday, the minister said the ministry has observed some serious concerns regarding NEPRA's multiple decisions about K-Electric's licenses for generation, transmission, distribution and supply, adding that these decisions also touch upon the investment plan for the upcoming multi-year tariff period.

NEPRA slaps Rs25m fine on K-Electric | The Express Tribune
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has imposed a fine of Rs25 million on K-Electric for failing to perform system restoration duties and comply with grid operation standards following a nationwide power breakdown on January 23, 2023. In an order issued on October 8, Nepra concluded that KE violated key provisions of the Nerpa Act, the Generation Licensing Rules 2000 and clauses of the Grid Code related to power restoration and system reliability. It said the company’s inability to maintain “adequate black start readiness” and conduct required mock tests directly contributed to extended outages across Karachi after the collapse of the national grid.
