And a couple of photos from my last visit to the site, to recover an Iron Age whetstone that had been discovered in the niche by the entrance.

The Holestone.

"the tradition that the Holestone is a betrothal, if not a marriage token remains unbroken, and couples from all the district round still plight their troths by clasping fingers through the ring or hole in this stone".

A small selection of the beautiful butterflies and orchids we see on our Italian mainland and island tours, to brighten a grey and stormy day here in the UK.

We love Italy and, with our superb network of local naturalists there, are expanding our range of tours across the country. Watch this space!

yet for some it was tinged with regret. I suppose as years have passed, as that large rural population have largely followed jobs into towns, the memories have been lost. They were not the same memories as those of naturalists and archaeologists; it was a workplace also a place of recreation.

It's weird that he's so often referred to as a 'naturalist' when, even having had a uniquely long television career, he's hardly done any pieces to camera with his cock out. I mean, I suppose it'd distract the penguins. Maybe he goes to those special beaches in the summer with other naturalists?

I don't think the xitter exodus has found me but just as a reminder, there is a starter pack of accounts that post about North American native plants. These are mostly not pro naturalists or landscapers or horticulturists, just humans who are really into plants. 🌱 go.bsky.app/MWY25jQ
