For those who do care about what's happening in the world, but who sometimes need an #Uplift:

Hand-curated by yours truly. Criteria unapologetically subjective, but esp: word nerds • acts of kindness • quirky • obscure interest deep-dives • alt-text

This idea that conservatives learned so much from Gramsci and postmodernism has circulated for so long, it’s now used for most successful conservative and/or far right movements. Outside of Benoist (a vulgar Gramscian) and some experiments in 90s obscure journals it never amounted to anything.
Interesting thought experiment, BUT it did not start with Trumpism. The Neocons, yes, looking at you, David Brooks, were already heirs to leftist revolutionary fervor, especially in foreign policy.
I was there. It was called New Middle East.

Two things interesting re Graham Platner and Maine election

1) 2nd biggest Platner opposition, as in NY mayor race, seems to be Dem establishment

2) Biggest opposition is Leonard Leo - Not mentioned in NYT column.

Why does NYT always obscure Leonard Leo’s role?

I wish I could actually do something about it

If there’s a solution it’s very obscure

I wish there was like a spell to make it so it didn’t upset me

God I hate it

198/1000:
THE TARTARS

Despite the lavish sets/costumes and the spectacular battle scenes, this movie as a whole definitely looked silly and poorly structured. Even Orson Welles' presence as a menacing villain doesn't do this obscure historical film any favors...

Also not obscure but They Came from Beyond the Grave by Onyx Path captures the aesthetics and themes of classic horror films by Hammer, Amicus and the like perfectly.

The term "filibuster" ultimately derives from the Dutch vrijbuiter ("freebooter", a pillaging and plundering adventurer), but the precise history of the word's borrowing into English is obscure.

The human race is so obscure by our time that most people don't even know they aren't humans. I guess it would be a lot to deal with...

I guess... It doesn't mean as much to me? I've kind of dealt with humans and their left over plans before.
That's actually natural, hearing that the human race went extinct is pretty big. It was for me when I first heard it from Tron.

Should have seen her face when I told her I was Human.
Most people tend to have... Strong reactions when I meet them. I think it has to do with the state of the world where I'm from...

I've been working over the past few years at translating obscure hyper moden experimental work by Heissenbuttel, whilst doing this I've read a great deal of texts about translation. With some rare exceptions (Francois Jullien for one). Their is an assumption of loss,

It just shows how febrile, how batshit, how hypocritical these right wing rags and their ridiculous right wing politicians have become. I mean Zahawi of all people knows how ridiculous the Rachel Reeves ‘outrage’ is?

2. credit to company for not doing usual Musk-style deception of hiding the human puppeteering the "AI", though they very much do obscure the class realities of hidden AI labour.

we also have a number of private gaming clubs, though they're less popular for TCG players, more for strategy wargames (not miniatures, but obscure games that are whole day or longer endeavors) or people with disposable income and no room where they live to host.
