yea the problem with poverty and food scarcity is that once people experience extended food scarcity that shit is carved in there forever. this was a major observable thing after the great leap forward and its resulting famine

"Appearing to close his eyes"? Motherfucker, we can actually see his eyes are closed. It's an observable fact. How about "appearing to fall asleep"? Or "appearing to briefly die"?

Images of Donald Trump appearing to close his eyes at an Oval Office announcement this week rocketed around social media this weekend, with the president’s opponents seizing on the footage to raise questions about Trump’s on-the-job performance.

you may genuinely believe you wish us well and support us, but your trans allyship doesn't go as far as listening to us when we tell you what's harming us. that's easily observable from your replies today.

Again: what would the observable difference between if the democratic party were explicitly operated, not to oppose the republicans or improve society, but to police the leftmost boundaries of politics?
Just checked wiki, & yep, he was in Michigan as well (I thought he was in Ohio, too), making *really* horrid remarks: www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/10.... I have to agree w/ you, bc at no point did it make sense for them to basically attack the left & Muslims/Arab-Americans, otters than "Fuck 'em".

Arab and Muslim leaders call former US president's comments 'insulting' and 'counterproductive'.

The light from the Battle of Wolf 359 would be observable from Earth-based sublight telescopes 7 years, 10 months, 1 week, 2 days, 17 hours, and 36 minutes after it took place.

After focusing so much of my work on intimate violence
“It’s bad faith to call out an observable pattern of behavior even I recognize as real” is not a position I’m ever surprised to come across but there is something strangely refreshing about folks without the art to conceal it.

This government is, at least, going to be a great case study for policy and business schools for decades in how your culture can lead you to just ignoring what every observable metric tells you that you have to do.
“Nobody thought a Labour government would have to raise taxes by more than £70bn,” claims one insider in this excellent piece. Shows the problem of the climate of fear in meetings created by some of Starmer’s aides, in that plenty of Labour insiders, did, in fact, think this!

I've been alive for 43 years and I could tell Republicans weren't trustworthy after like 20 of them, how are these people twice my age but still oblivious to this basic and extremely observable fact
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

i think all the bouba kiki transgender transsexual talk is orthogonal to the fact that these ppl dont care about observable reality or inner experiences or even received tradition but instead literally just whatever allows them to impress their disassociation abuser regime onto people

It's honestly bizarre to watch. Like, almost word for word reading people I like/respect saying "man oh man, was feeling really edgy watching observable reality but then this barely sourced "Schumer sucks" shaped gobbledygook brought my blood pressure waaaaay down"

I've thought about this before, I think it's because intelligence is intangible and not directly observable. You can easier make the case that actually just general financial and social success is a proxy for it and you get a kind of circular self-legitimisation of the status quo.

I’ve adopted a policy of telling people when some knowledge or code comes from an LLM so that the total system is less partially observable and people can expect brittleness

Transphobia is a gateway for these people to legitimise their prejudices. It releases their freedom to hate difference.

It’s an observable pipeline to the far right.

Which is how so many previously normal journalists and politicians are kinda comfortable with fascist ideas now.

1 does seem more directly observable and that's the one I had in mind. I think that when non-whites were fully able to participate in sports and various aspects of cultural life it just undermines that in too dramatic a fashion.

I read it; it’s so so dumb.
The say “woke” or “wokeness” - I am not joking - 25 times.

These people cannot conceive of the idea that while society teaches us gendered behavior & there are observable differences between the genders, people are wonderfully diverse & never neatly filed into boxes.

It's absolutely absurd

The examples of Anti-trans+ ideologues being platformed uncritically without restraint, while Trans+ people are completely frozen out, or at best only allowed a presence if they're balanced out with someone with 'gender-critical' beliefs, are numerous and observable

We have plenty of examples of asteroids and comets without observable tails that still have significant non-gravitational accelerations from ejected mass (the Manx comets, the dark comets, etc.).

Avi Loeb knows about those.

But he has been pleased to pretend that they are spacecraft too.

It’s been heavily speculated for years but is now with time and data being confirmed that the COVID virus persists for a long time in various bodily tissues but isn’t readily observable in most standard tests. That bodes poorly for future health. This isn’t reported in the mainstream media…
