I've thought about this before, I think it's because intelligence is intangible and not directly observable. You can easier make the case that actually just general financial and social success is a proxy for it and you get a kind of circular self-legitimisation of the status quo.

I’ve adopted a policy of telling people when some knowledge or code comes from an LLM so that the total system is less partially observable and people can expect brittleness

1 does seem more directly observable and that's the one I had in mind. I think that when non-whites were fully able to participate in sports and various aspects of cultural life it just undermines that in too dramatic a fashion.
