#Ordinals
I'm still waiting for Lim & Quan's real breakthrough moment. They were already such a powerful, striking team as juniors and but they haven't quite emerged from the messy middle ordinals of the senior level. #SCI25 #GPFigure

I have been looking at the subring of No generated by the ordinals. These all have the form alpha-beta, where alpha and beta are ordinals, but the representation is not unique. But it has nice properties. I'm trying to figure out exactly how nice it is.

As an algebraist, I often wonder if there is a reasonable algebraic structure that encapsulates the properties of the (ordinary) operations on ordinals, which lack the most basic stuff like commutativity of addition, but still have Euclidean division which works mostly like one would expect. 🤔

So we don't have modular arithmetic in the ordinals when using the natural sum and product. Meanwhile, we do have this when using the ordinary order-based sum and product.

I realized today that the natural sum and product in the ordinals does not play nicely with the concept of even. The every-other pattern breaks down, and we do not have the Euclidean algorithm, because ω cannot be divided by 2 with remainder 0 or 1.

Had both kinds of sandwich today: peanut butter & jelly.

In numerology the ordinals of a word are added up.
Ordinals: a = 1, b = 2, and so on. Case & non alpha characters are ignored.

peanut butter is 151, jelly is 59, so
peanut butter & jelly = 19
... or = 191
... xor = 172.

For pete's sake, you can turn that shit off. Same as you can always turn the spell-check off. You can even turn the superscript ordinals and the automatic hyperlinks off. No patience for people playing victim to their own devices.

Bitcoin devs debate BIP-444, a proposal to curb blockchain spam by limiting data added via OP_RETURN & other script types. It would restrict output sizes (83/34 bytes) & effectively halt Ordinals inscriptions. Concerns center on blockchain data capacity. #Bitcoin #BIP444

📘 TODAY'S TIP: ORDINAL NUMBERS

Numbers can be tricky but once you know cardinal numbers, forming ordinals is easy:
1st ➡️ first | 2nd ➡️ second | 3rd ➡️ third | from 4th on, just add -th: fourth, fifth, sixth...
E.g. 31st, 42nd, 103rd, 34th, 1,568th.

Googologists should refrain from making and naming random large countable ordinals for no reason.

I am quite skeptical of how many googologists have even tried to learn Gentzen's ordinal analysis, where the story about recursive ordinal systems started.
