Are you a human being?

Do find a proofreader with a pulse,"Resources are not finite." ,Freudian.

Is this supposed to be a serious response? Are you just parroting Thanos' ideologies?

Vergil just had to stay the night in the spooky manor, and he would be in his fraternity. Hopefully, nothing scary sexy happens.

Can we all campaign for someone to hire me to do this please? I am a great proofreader!
And it's usually big hitters like Netflix, Amazon, Disney etc - they're clearly just using software to "scribe" subtitles but you'd think they could at least employ one person to proofread/tweak them to ensure they match the spoken words before they go out, but: NOPE.

I actually post in multiple places that I am NOT a proofreader or copyeditor. Assuming someone pulled from an editor database and missed the NOT bit.

Today's example of AI getting it wrong, in my in-box:

"After reviewing your resume in our professional resume database, I was impressed by your background and experience, particularly your work in proofreading. Your qualifications align closely with what we are seeking for a Proofreader position.."

Trading Standards need a better proofreader. Also, if you want a tan, maybe just...get over yourself.

Unbelievable. The congestion charge in Oxford started yesterday (29/10/25). The grammar’s off, the charge is on and someone needs a proofreader. Oxford deserves better.

The signs advertising Oxford's new congestion charge say motorists can pay the fee "on line", instead of "online".

Either your interlocutor is one of those whom it's better to nuke-block on sight, or else they're a really, REALLY bad self-proofreader.

As we head into some of the first essays of the season, it's time to think about hiring a proofreader to look over your work and give it that extra edge. Every word deserves a little TLC - and that's where I come in. Visit my website or DM to book your space today!

Afternoon, #FreelanceFriends! Chiming in from Central NJ. Consulting editor, proofreader, overthinker, and amateur baker. I do not like candy corn. However, I have an unabashed love of raisinettes (specifically the dark chocolate, so take from that what you will).

Having finished two Barbara Pym books 👍, I picked a light novel from Kindle Unlimited. The author needs a new proofreader. I came across this:

AN AFFRONTERY (sic)

🤔

Too cheap for a proofreader?

Yes, exactly. I mean, I'm in both boats. As a linguist, I feel exactly as you describe, but as an editor/proofreader I'm always "correcting" stuff.
Incidentally, when I ask my kids, who are basically Czech speakers, how they are, they absolutely say "I'm good". I never taught them that. 🤣

that's been my experience; it can replace a writer but you still need a proofreader who could have written the text to make sure it's complete and ok, it can't be trusted to be load-bearing so it mostly just shifts labor around.

I agreed with the points about storytelling and rules of film. But it's a VERY long article.

I'm a fan of parens and brackets (only b/c as an editor and proofreader, most people use them wrong).😄

I think the casual person who sees this might think you mean proofreader and that's where it gets complicated and expensive for authors. But I agree they (we) need to do some form of triage before putting things out.
