Really enjoying this by @graemelyons.bsky.social
I don't think I'll ever become a super-naturalist but I'll have fun trying!

Found some Wart Barnacles (Verruca stroemia) washed up on a piece of net yesterday. All of the larger individuals had Foraminiferans on them, mostly Lobatula lobatula which commonly lives on other species apparently - happy to see them in situ #panspecieslisting

Lovely walk to Penicuik House Estate added a species I’ve definitely seen before (Maidenhair Spleenwort) and one that I’ve not noticed before (Broom Fork-moss). Also, though I’m not 💯 confident of either, Scaly Pelt Lichen and Black Witches’ Butter - happy to be corrected #panspecieslisting

Whilst unloading the moth trap at #RSPBLakenheathFen I was thoroughly distracted by this Ichnuemon Wasp, which I think is Eutanyacra picta, with only 1 confirmed UK record on the NBN atlas! #PSL #PanSpeciesListing

Mark Telfer and I only went and refound Aulonia albimana on the Isle of Wight two days ago! Quite possibly the best spider find of my life! Lots of other records too. analternativenaturalhistoryofsussex.blogspot.com/2025/10/whit...

Was very pleased to find this massive Stentor coeruleus in a pond in Edinburgh yesterday- it’s not often you see bright blue single celled organism that’s visible to the naked eye #protist #panspecieslisting

This Pandemis cinnamomeana was species 1000 for our small suburban garden. Barred hook-tip was 1001, would have been a nicer milestone. Species breakdown for anyone vaguely interested. #panspecieslisting @graemelyons.bsky.social

Nice to visit the local Sunflower 🌻 trail yesterday, plenty of #fungi to see. Probably the only one looking at leaf moulds as I went round, 5 species plus some arable weeds. 😁🌼🍄‍🟫 #panspecieslisting #widerscope #sunflowertrail ##mushrooms #leafmould

A new miner for me, likely one I've overlooked or ignored in the past. On a tall Lombardy Poplar (or maybe a hybrid Black of some sort). Aulagromyza populi gallery mines with in-situ pupae. These examples show the mine moving from the underside to upperside. #diptera #agromyzidae #panspecieslisting

1/3 #speciesaday no. 642 is Musk Orchid (Herminium monorchis). Vulnerable, Nationally Scarce and Section 41. A diminutive yellow-green orchid of short, warm places on the Downs. Smells of honey when in flower. All my records are between 24th June and 1st August. #orchids #panspecieslisting #flowers

The main highlight from my Whetstone Leics. light trap last night was not a moth. Amongst the various non-leps was this leafhopper, the first VC55 record for Opsius stactogalus which is a Tamarisk feeder (no Tamarisk around my garden). A new one for me. #panspecieslisting #hemiptera #homoptera #bugs

In 2016, I did a psl big year. On 3 July I recorded spp no 1000. Roll on 9 yrs and my second psl big year. Last nights moth trap produced 7nfy, with Dark Spectacle being spp 2000 for the year. #panspecieslisting

A new rust for me, though apparently common. Found several Buckthorn leaves with this at Ketton Quarry today, which readily keys to Puccinia coronata using the FSC AIDGAP British Plant Galls [Third Edition]. #fungi #panspecieslisting

Coleopteran early stage finds today: a leafmine on oak of Orchestes quercus [it was tenanted when collected but the larva evacuated in transit]. And a White Poplar leaf being skeletonised by as-yet unidentified larvae that I believe are from the Chrysomelidae. #coleoptera #panspecieslisting

Sweet - a lucky swipe with my net at a UFO (that looked likely to be Coleopteran) this evening at Fosse Meadows in Leics. produced a spanking Ptinomorphus imperialis, a nice new beetle for me. #coleoptera #panspecieslisting

Been waiting for these to turn up; I've had a small Red Mason Bee (Osmia bicornis) colony in my Whetstone Leics. garden for a couple of years, this is the third and the tiny cleptoparasitic fly Cacoxenus indagator has appeared - new to me and the garden list. #diptera #panspecieslisting

2/2 A few other interesting beetles were found on fungi encrusted trunks and sap runs on felled birch stumps, including these: Glischrochilus quadriguttatus, Pediacus dermestoides and Corticeus unicolor. #panspecieslisting #coleoptera

1/2 Whilst out moth trapping last night, I was joined by Graham Finch (VC55 Coleoptera Recorder). I mentioned that one of the beetles I hoped to see at the site was Endomychus coccineus; a couple of hours later whilst we were looking over a busy trunk Graham found one! #panspecieslisting #coleoptera

Oh what a day. Ada requested "somewhere new". So we set off to @rspb.bsky.social Blacktoft Sands.

Lots of NFY including Garganey, but also Sand Martins and Willow Warblers. I also saw Water Voles and a Grass Snake! My first ever UK snake - both PSL ticks.

Out for a lovely sunny walk on the beach at Hunstanton today, and got caught out by not having my TG-6 to hand. The tiny specks trying to escape this tiny puddle on a rock are - I believe - springtails. And given the habitat, perhaps Anurida maritima .... #collembola #panspecieslisting
