Handmade paper from a Drambuie gift box 🎁
It's got pops of red and orange, like the bottle itself!

In much lighter news: our daughter has picked up papermaking as a new hobby, and honestly? I had no idea people just… made paper for fun.

She now turns every scrap of junk mail into journal pages.

She’s a cool kid. ✨

🌳 Papermaking spread across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe over the span of centuries afterwards, and wood played a huge role in the papermaking process, even before it was a staple component in production! But wood even influenced the word itself!

I’m making paper from leaves. I also mades dyes from walnut hulls, and the tannin heavy water from boiling the leaves for pulp.

I went to an art school but for writing. I took one fine art class, papermaking. I made a piece where I enclosed a cotton mold of a budai in a sheet of Japanese kozo. Prof asks me to explain. I had some ideas about religious coopting in the west. Prof says “I don’t get that from this.” I’m still mad
Sucks that people have been made to feel like art is a puzzle they aren't smart enough to appreciate. When you go to a gallery the only questions that really matter are what does it make you think of and how does it make you feel

Finally planning to get back in the studio this week, but wanted to take care of cutting down some old cotton sheets my Mom had brought down for me.

Enjoyed visiting the University of Georgia Coastal Botanical Gardens and doing a papermaking workshop. We even made some paper from bamboo pulp.

It turns out my home firing and papermaking experiments, done completely independently of each other, have been good preparation for working in paperclay.

You know something is seriously wrong with this country when I’m considering taking a papermaking class not only for ‘fun’ and for learning more sustainable skills for my business, but also just in case I run out of fucking toilet paper and can’t afford to buy more.
