also i disagree with the view of all capitalist as this rent sucking vampire class(they can be, but they are usually out competed by the better class of capitalists that invest in human capital too, you can do this for selfish reasons, no altruism needed, no philanthropy needed)

As we've said many times! If philanthropy were as prevalent as in past generations, we wouldn't have to beg for basic needs! No food pantries! No health care bills. Reasonable utility bills and groceries everyone could afford! Those generous people are gone! Stand up! Fight back!

In theory. In theory he's involved in philanthropy and outreach and... In practice? Gotham is kept as grimy and corrupt and dangerous as the writers want and need it to be. At best the writers are implying Bruce's methods are incapable of succeeding, at worst they're claiming Gotham is unfixable.

Back then, this tweet was surprising, because of his brand. We don't often react as much as we should at billionaires with records of philanthropy and support publicly for social progress because other billionaires are more problematic. But the current landscape makes it more obvious and deadlier

The work of philanthropy, then, isn’t to command or correct—and it certainly isn’t to demean and disparage. It’s to sustain. And its truest measure is not what it buys but what it actually helps to build.
