I worked really hard on the kids Halloween costumes this year and it was so fun seeing the confidence and joy with which they robbed our neighbors of a huge candy haul.

these people are so lost. they have zero notion of placemaking or community building. it’s all checking boxes and spreadsheets to them.

🎃 Halloween isn't just about costumes and candy. It is one of the best examples of community-led placemaking in action. When neighbours decorate their homes and invite kids to knock on doors, public spaces become shared spaces.
But what about condos? What about building community within buildings?

Excited to share photos of our concession stand adaptive re-use in Hickory Hills! By formalizing the ad-hoc use of the garage with a new service window, metal panels, and a supergraphic, we add to the placemaking efforts of The Lakota Group’s Veterans Park refresh.

We were so glad that she was able to make it to Toronto for the 2nd Global Placemaking Summit this past June. It was an honour to host her again – especially as the event provided an opportunity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of PPS.

I have a take brewing about how so many of the rallies/protests yesterday were along roads and meant to engage primarily with people in cars, and what that says about civic placemaking in the US and how street protest might develop further in those kinds of places,,,,,

Love it! Let me know if you’d like to talk about public art’s role in advancing climate action. Every placemaking opportunity is also an opportunity to decarbonize our cities.

As we all know I'm a fan of rural placemaking but I sure am tired of books romanticizing the rural existence and suggesting all we need to fix the planet is to just go back to small communities where we grow our own food like my dudes, this is not achievable at scale.

BTW the Seattle Design Commission is like design review, except for public projects. They deal with buildings but they also review a lot of transportation and placemaking projects and their input can steer the direction of those efforts for good or for ill.

In the heart of Seoul, a ribbon of water now threads through where an expanse of asphalt once stood. The Cheonggyecheon Stream restoration, which replaced a major elevated motorway with an ecological and recreational corridor, has become a powerful case study in placemaking and traffic evaporation.🧵

Cities across the US are prioritizing investments in revitalization/walkability/placemaking. What about public restrooms? If they are well-managed/usable, it signals to visitors and residents alike that the surrounding area is safe/dignified and regularly cared for www.planetizen.com/features/136...
