#PopScience
y'know - in opposite to you I dont engage with AI or popscience but work in science communication and in doing so read up on actual publications of recent years. Your dedication to not drop your hypocricy is really what makes this whole ordeal amusing to engage in

An excellent 1964 pop sci video from the USSR, explaining special relativity in a very accessible way, newly subtitled in English:

Still remember my first existential crisis, when my uncle delighted himself in my suffering by forcing the popscience knowledge of a red giant sun eating earth one day into little 10 year old me.

I'm more acceptant of continuous, inevitable change nowdays, but your post is still really comforting😊

I wouldve said he's popscience but that's a better way of saying it. I like Steve mould tho he's much better at showing concepts without using mathematics much.

Also from before the AI boom, Cathy O'Neil's popscience book "Weapons of Math Destruction" has the argument laid out. From Wikipedia, "She posits that these problematic mathematical tools share three key features: they are opaque, unregulated, and difficult to contest."

Writing a book-length popscience TEDtalk is the phobe equivalent of doing musical theater in high school

I just wish literary studies actually used the various memos and found some other theory basis for their arguments.

(And this is why I probably lean popscience for aspec literature. I would rather chew my foot off than go build deliberately on Freudian theory.)

There's a popular burning question that is "are we inside of a black hole?"
My answer is the Sagittarius A*centric Model.

also LMAO at this new popscience fascist argument that "science is common sense"... bruh there are QUARKS, science is not common sense or we would not have SCIENCE (aka the scientific method, methodology for determining truth in a world that is limited by our subjective experiences of it)

how to tell your mom inviting you to easter service that you're godless but convinced if there's a heaven you're still going there when you die while simultaneously deeply worried we live in a simulation (because of popscience clickbait you know is flimsy shit) which would be actually be your hell

This is the shoddiest bullshit I have ever read. Popscience articles like this are a plague
April 10, 2025 at 9:50 PM
agreed - i'd like it more if people didn't just read freakonomics or some other hot topic book and took everything as gospel and quoted it without looking into it any more. idk, honestly, a lot of youtubers do a better job at popscience than authors ever did
