#PowerGrids
Yemen is supposedly pretty solar punk as well, after having their powergrids suffer for various reasons over the past couple of decades. We could only look more backwards in the West if we mandated having a landline phone in every home.

This AI craze is going to break our powergrids. There needs to be regulation forcing Corporations building facilities that put such stress on local powergrids to have to build their own power facilities.

After decimating fuel supplies, Ukraine has effectively targeted critical powergrids across Russia.

No wonder DJT is running to China. Could it be he has finally seen Putin as a complete loser?!

stop this hemorrhaging and jettisoning. Stop thinking it’s a big show. How much longer until the #ProudBoys in #disguise start going after the #powergrids…? Or #water supplies? Just thinking out loud, here!

Engineering use to be about building software, bridges, powergrids…. now chunking content into a arbitrary number of paragraph makes you an engineer… I guess dragging boxes Canva makes you a design engineer?

I don't think you understand how powergrids are currently setup...
And if you actually watched the video she explains how "net zero" has been marketed as a savour. However, when any of these projects are implemented, the current physical infrastructure can't support it. 1/2

"oh we have a great opportunity to build data centers in Australia!" oh, you mean like the data centers that are poisoning communities in their local vicinity overseas?

The data centers draining city powergrids?

The data centers hogging water from farmers?

The strain on power grids caused by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and data center construction.
The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and the accompanying surge in data center construction are placing unprecedented strain on power grids. This isn's merely a question of increased energy consumption; the location of these high-demand facilities and the sheer speed of their growth are exacerbating the problem, driving up costs for electricity capacity, transmission upgrades, and overall power expenses. Existing grid infrastructure, not designed for such concentrated loads, faces bottlenecks, leading to project delays and escalating expenses. Regulatory frameworks are struggling to keep pace, highlighting the need for more adaptable and innovative approaches. Addressing this challenge requires a strategic, collaborative approach. Proactive grid planning, incorporating location strategy and anticipating future needs, is crucial. Success depends on bringing together data center operators, utilities, regulators, and communities, fostering consensus and managing concerns. Innovative financing models, exemplified by Microsoft's initiative to re-open Three Mile Island, and the integration of technologies like AI to optimize grid operations – as demonstrated by Google’s investments – are essential. Advocacy with regulators is also needed to create a supportive policy environment. Specific difficulties include managing data centers co-located near power generation, escalating transmission costs, and the critical importance of data center location beyond power availability to include fiber optic infrastructure, skilled labor, and regulatory support. The potential revival of nuclear power offers a viable path to meet growing demand for clean energy, while areas like the PJM Interconnection are experiencing considerable strain. Actions from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) are crucial components of both the challenges and potential solutions. The future of AI development is fundamentally linked to the health and resilience of the power grid, demanding a departure from traditional grid planning methods. Collaborative engagement between stakeholders is vital to ensure a stable and sustainable power supply. Control over energy resources is likely to become an increasingly important strategic advantage, creating opportunities for investment in grid modernization and expansion.

All good points. Yet, we still have what I'd call a Ricardo problem, which is that any attempt to muscle out present supply with higher cost supply will have knock-on effects. I'd also point to the important factor of speed in building out powergrids--the platform for renewables.

Is there not...

Since the Reagan days I've been thinking that there are horrible bombs etc planted around the US that will go off and destroy cities, food sources, dams and powergrids if we don't do what The Enemy wants. It keeps good politicians from doing better and bad ones enjoy finding the "line"
