That "bit of language about God & Jesus kicking about" are not just optional extras I'd say. They are doors into a shared Quaker #story & a shared starting place. The words draw us together & prevents #Quakerism from becoming a blank canvas waiting to be painted uoon by isolated spiritual artists.

Yesterday, I learned something that made so much of Quakerism click into place. Early Friends believed that our social justice work IS Armageddon. Christ returned in our hearts to guide our nonviolent transformation of earth into a new Eden. It is the Lamb's War, but it is a war of hearts and minds

He made his career on the rabid anti-communism of the 50s.
I doubt 10% of his supporters even knew what Quakerism was about. Still, I'd take him and them every day and Sunday over their present-day descendants.
