#RTÉUpFront
It's a shame that #rteupfront is no longer.

Katie did a great job I thought at knowing when to prompt & push guests on topics & was fair in leading the debates, especially with audience members.

The format felt much more real & free flowing than #rtept

Building houses for teachers, guards & nurses on pub land still depends on devs building for a profit they set.

To break the cycle, setup a state building company that hires workers on high wages at scale & removes the profit incentive.

But 1st, fine & CPO vacant props

Then a discussion on which professions deserve special houses on public land.

It's COVID vaccines all over again.

I know people want to give solutions, but treating the symptom (teachers need houses) instead of the cause (market fundamentalism) is folly.

I can't believe what I'm hearing. They're talking about restricting work permits to manage demand on the housing market.

39k work permits issued in 2024.

It wouldn't make a dent & cause skills shortages elsewhere in the economy.

650 houses built in one estate in my town recently. Not one bungalow. Builders will not build bungalows when they can build 2 semi-detached houses on the same site. Are town planners and politicians unwilling to take on the builders? So that's why we'll be staying in our 4-bedroom house #rteupfront

The Government is exploring incentives to support older people to downsize - supporters say it'll help older people to continue to live independently while also giving younger families access to housing. Critics say this isn't choice but pressure. What do you think? #RTÉUpfront
