Radiolympia attendees could step out on a dance floor to tunes from Jack Payne and his BBC Orchestra, but presumably to avoid an intolerable cacophony broadcast demonstrations were not permitted in the hall. As a consequence, manufacturers hired nearby premises to show off the latest systems.

As the weekly’s radio drama critic, she had seen a demonstration during the Radiolympia broadcasts arranged ahead of the BBC’s ‘high definition’ service going on air on 2 November 1936.

Cabaret Cruise was shown several times from Radiolympia, but the Tuesday afternoon edition was special since it was also carried simultaneously on the Regional Programme. Quite how The Five Lai Founs came across on the wireless is unrecorded, not to mention the fancy dress frocks.
