I’m busy thinking of how this would feel if, in South Africa, the SAMRC suddenly stopped publishing data and then only resumed if the majority party said OK.
There was a time when this happened of course. Particularly in SA pre-1994.

The CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report paused in January — possibly first time in 60 years — and has resumed with political clearance. Just one example of how executive orders are affecting scientific journals.

Our BRILLIANT Consortium funding in S Africa - partnership with SAMRC on novel HIV vaccines - is pulled. 20% of a senior researcher's salary gone; postdoc removed, no running money. SAMRC will rescue the researcher for 6 months; I have to pick up the rest - it's strictly temporary at our end.
