I’m busy thinking of how this would feel if, in South Africa, the SAMRC suddenly stopped publishing data and then only resumed if the majority party said OK.
There was a time when this happened of course. Particularly in SA pre-1994.

Remarkable numbers. NIH investment in SA is roughly 1.5 times what the SAMRC gets from the SA government. So many research jobs and careers are at risk here.

Our BRILLIANT Consortium funding in S Africa - partnership with SAMRC on novel HIV vaccines - is pulled. 20% of a senior researcher's salary gone; postdoc removed, no running money. SAMRC will rescue the researcher for 6 months; I have to pick up the rest - it's strictly temporary at our end.

A SAMRC led qualitative study recently published in PLOS ONE reports on the performance of QI teams working in maternal & neonatal health in SA. The qualitative study was part of a mixed-methods evaluation of the effectiveness of the Mphatlalatsane Project.
