Alabama’s parole rate was 8% last year even though the board’s own criteria said 80% should’ve been released.
Now SB324 would give them more power to deny and delay.

The bill by Sen. Clyde Chambliss, R-Prattville, would expand the board from three members to five and have the board pick its chairman.

Under current law, the three members of the board are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate.

SB324, in addition to expanding the board to five, would specify that board members cannot begin their term until Senate confirmation.
