Rejoining the EU is a side issue to the question, it's relevant to the politics but it is not central in the way that the border poll and the union or nation question is.

Rejoining the EU is a side issue to the question, it's relevant to the politics but it is not central in the way that the border poll and the union or nation question is.

That aggregation of bloc votes is contentious. If you don't have a majority of the vote explicitly in favour of a border poll, it isn't going to happen. You can't just add the Alliance Party to the actual pro-unification SF-SDLP and call it job done.

Lots of us in the UK have always had a choice of progressive parties, as 3 of the nations have SF/SDLP, SNP, or PC. Scotland & Wales have Greens and Lab too, and voting systems where coalitions are encouraged. I think it's a very English thing, to want only one big party.

The British army did lots of awful things. I think the IRA killed more civilians. They had very little public support in either part of Ireland. In Northern Ireland Roman Catholics generally voted for the SDLP.

It's Gerry Carrol bringing the motion rather than an SF MLA which I mistakenly thought it was at first. Obviously they'll back it, as I imagine will the SDLP and maybe Alliance. I suppose the UK govt will turn a blind eye, even if there has been misconduct in public office.
