Must be partly as people aren’t moving out of them even when they don’t need them? Very cheap to stay in a house, stamp duty if you move. I live in a street full of retired couples in large houses.

I can confirm having a 2 billion Mark stamp at home, enough for a sending a postcard. And we have a 2 trillion banknote 😂.
Money was devaluation so quickly, a lot of the economy went to barter. My grandma was lucky though, she worked for the US embassy as a translator and was paid in USD 😂.

Recently got back into stamp collecting and I’ve realized it’s one of the few areas where it’s quite easy to get your hand on items from a long gone era.
This one’s about 150y old - a very different world for the original owner.
But I’ve still yet to cross the 2 century mark though…
