Miu getting thrown into the chairs works much better because it feels like a unique situation as opposed to Stardom where it happens in most shows and sometimes during 3 or matches in the same show. Hate does it 'yep that's what Hate does'. Yuki Aino does it 'things are out of control!'

But it is more than a facile comedy style that has made Colleen Moore. She is the embodiment of the typical American girl, the everyday girl that her 'fans' admire and adore." 15
Perhaps the greatest flapper film commentary on the power of the glance and the eyes as transfer point occurs in Ella Cinders. Loosely based on the Cinderella story as interpreted by the comic strip "Cinderella at the Movies," the film follows Ella, who enters a beauty contest with the prize of an acting job in Hollywood to escape her small-town life of drudgery and become a movie star. In order to help break into the movies, she reads a book titled "The Art of Motion Picture Acting" (fig. 24), which instructs:
"The greatest requisite to stardom is the eyes. Master the art of expressing every emotion with the eyes." She looks over a page of pairs of eyes expressing the key acting emotions: hate, love, fear, Airtation (fig. 25). Her gaze - and ours —dwells on a pair of crossed eyes, which is then followed up with the text: "Cross-eyes —or the ability to make the eyes appear crossed have brought great fortune to certain moving picture actors." What follows is a fine piece of comic business courtesy of a split-screen trick: a close-up of Moore's face shows an extended sequence of each eye moving independently (fig. 26).
This is a freaky spectacle, one that always provokes a loud response when I show it to my students. Before the cinematic trick, along with Ella we are immersed in the acting how-to book, which frames the gag in the trappings of realism. Perhaps the buildup to the gag whets the spectator's curiosity about how eye play is achieved, and hopes to glean something from what follows.

24-27. Colleen Moore
parodies the centrality of the eyes for silent-film acting and the relations of looking in film culture in Ella Cinders.
Ella sits before a mirror with a book titled The Art of Motion Picture Acting (24), which has pictures of the emotions communicated by different eye expressions such as fear, hate, flirtation, and crossed eyes (25). What follows is a trick sequence in which each of Moore's eyes moves independently (26).
Ultimately it is the cross-eyed expression that inadvertently ends up on Ella's head shot that gets her noticed (27).
