A 59-year-old man from a village in the Oshana region was arrested by the police this week after he allegedly repeatedly raped a 17-year-old boy. The incidents took place between January and 1 June this year. This was confirmed by the head of Oshana police criminal investigations, deputy commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, on Sunday. “It is alleged that during January, the suspect requested the victim to escort him to his house, and while on their way, the suspect started touching him inappropriately and raped him,” the police said. The suspect then offered the victim an amount of N$200, Ndjadila said. Then again, on Sunday, 1 June, the suspect requested the victim go to his house and raped the boy while there. The Namibian Police spokesperson, deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, has confirmed that the body discovered at Okahandja’s Five Rand location is that of 15-year-old Beyonce Kharuxas. Shikwambi said the teenager is believed to have been raped before being murdered. Speaking on Sunday morning, Shikwambi said Kharuxas had gone to a bar with her friends at around 22h00 on Friday evening. While at the bar, they were joined by two men who bought them alcohol. “Later, the deceased informed her friends that she was going to the toilet. She never returned, and that was the last time they saw her,” Shikwambi said. A passerby discovered Kharuxas’ body the following afternoon in an open area at Five Rand location. She was found dressed only in a black top. According to police information, Kharuxas was last seen at the bar with an adult male who was buying her alcohol. They were allegedly communicating in English and left the bar together at around 01h00. No arrests have been made, but investigations are ongoing.
